Mammy Redd: Marblehead's Witch

  • Marblehead Museum 170 Washington Street Marblehead, MA, 01945 United States (map)

Local historian Keith Trickett tells the story of Mammy Redd who lived up on Old Burial Hill with her poor fisherman husband, Samuel. On May 31, 1692, she was arrested on witchcraft charges and brought to Salem Village to face her accusers. Like many, her neighbors turned their backs on her and trusted their long held suspicions that she was the Witch of Marblehead.

The fall lecture series is sponsored by Marble Harbor Investment Counsel.
